2023 Mazda CX-50

At Neil Huffman Mazda in Louisville, we have noticed a growing trend in recent years, which is that crossover SUVs are becoming quite popular among drivers.

It is easy to see why: It provides the space and safety of a larger vehicle while approximating the performance of smaller cars like sedans.

A specific crossover SUV that has been getting a lot of love from our customers and reviewers alike is the 2023 Mazda CX-50. Read on for just some of the reasons why this car is quickly becoming the preferred crossover SUV for so many drivers.

Beautiful Design

Let’s face it: When most people are in the market for an SUV, even a crossover, they realize that the aforementioned space and safety often take precedence over style.

With the 2023 Mazda CX-50, you get a car that manages to look powerful and not bulky. The exterior includes paint finishes ranging from Zircon Sand Metallic, Ingot Blue Metallic, and Wind Chill Pearl.

The luxury look extends to the interior as well, with half-leatherette-trimmed seats and leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear selector.

Power Under the Hood

The SKYACTIV® TECHNOLOGY 4-cylinder engine includes a fuel-saving Cylinder Deactivation system and 16-valve DOHC (double overhead camshaft, which provides power to the pistons and thus makes for a smoother ride).

This engine power yields 187 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm. Torque reaches 186-lb-ft at 4,000 rpm.

Why are horsepower and torque important?

Horsepower, named so because James Watt estimated the average horse could do 33,000 foot-pounds (i.e., energy required to raise one pound one foot) of work in a minute. To put it briefly, horsepower speaks to how well a car accelerates.

Fun fact: In reality, your average workhorse can achieve about 15 horsepower.

For the driver, torque matters because it is relevant to the engine’s response to the gas pedal. The higher the torque, the less response time there is between pressing the gas pedal and the engine going to work. You literally feel torque in the traction—smoother traction speaks to high torque.

Further, an advanced direct injection fuel system will save you gas while also improving performance.

This culminates in a crossover with All-Wheel Drive that hits a strong 24/30 city/highway mpg for the 15.9 fuel capacity.

If you plan on taking this vehicle on weekend excursions or vacations, be apprised that it can tow up to 2,000 pounds (do remember that towing capacity must take into account the weight of passengers and any cargo in-car.)
