2023 MAZDA CX-50

At Neil Huffman Mazda in Louisville, the Choice is Clear!

If you’re in the market for a crossover SUV, then you’ve likely become familiar with the automotive market’s top two vehicle models in this particular category – the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 and the 2022 Toyota RAV4.

Yes, it’s true – there’s a reason these two time-honored vehicles are side-by-side in that ranking. Both vehicles share a range of practical similarities and the gas mileage for each model is quite similar (24 MPG/City for the MAZDA and 27 MPG/City for the competing Toyota model).

However, a closer look at these vehicles shines light on some essential differences, which we think will help you see why MAZDA’s crossover has the edge over Toyota’s offering. Read on to learn how these top performing crossover SUVs differ.

Take it from us at Neil Huffman: Just because there are some big similarities between two cars, such as gas mileage, that does not mean either vehicle is a good candidate for fitting your needs. So, join us in taking a deeper dive into the features of each of these vehicles, so that you can find which of these great vehicles is more likely to suit you.

Under the Hood

Both cars feature All Wheel Drive (AWD) and have 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engines, but there are other differences in performance, including horsepower, where MAZDA’s model gets 187 at 6,000 RPM while Toyota’s reaches 203 at 6,600 RPM.

When it comes to torque, the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 boasts 186 lbs at 4,000 RPM, while the 2022 Toyota RAV4 gets 184 lbs at 5,000 RPM.

The MAZDA’s phenomenal torque ultimately makes it the winner in terms of performance, as it can reach better acceleration and handle more cargo. This makes the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 the best choice for drivers who like long-haul trips, cross country or into nature–the better a car’s torque, the better it can handle mountainous roads and other demanding terrain.

Comparing the Exteriors

These are both sporty vehicles, but the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is a slightly smaller car overall, with a length of approximately 181 inches compared to the 2023 MAZDA CX-50’s approximate 186.

The 2023 MAZDA CX-50 has 17” wheels while the 2022 Toyota RAV4 has 19” wheels.

As far as style goes, the 2022 Toyota RAV4’s color options range from solid white to ruby flare to midnight black, while the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 has the options of metallic gray, jet black, or indigo blue.

As the previous section demonstrated, the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 is better designed for road trips and a variety of weather conditions, and its color options demonstrate this, as they are better fit for handling any dirtying conditions.

Inside the Car

Both vehicles are notable for their comfortable and stylish interiors, which can seat up to five people. Each offers a high-tech setup that offers safety features, such as driver assist programs that alert you to potential collisions.

The cargo space between the two vehicles is comparable, with the 2022 Toyota RAV4 having slightly more cargo space than the MAZDA.

However, the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 can tow up to 2,000 lbs, while the 2022 Toyota RAV4 only goes up to 1,500 lbs, which is something to consider if your trips involve hauling heavy cargo.

For most drivers, the MAZDA CX-50’s slightly smaller interior cargo space is more than made up for in the much larger towing capacity.

Making the Choice

What sets the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 above the 2022 Toyota RAV4 is that both vehicles are well-fit for driving around town, but the MAZDA is certainly superior when it comes to take it out of town and into the country, whether on a road trip or an outdoor adventure. Since this is what many people in the market for crossover SUVs are looking to do, then we believe it is no contest: The MAZDA all the way.

If you want a well-performing and good-looking SUV that drives and handles very smoothly, and can be taken just about anywhere, then we would recommend getting in contact with us at Neil Huffman today!

Mazda is poised to bring an amazing array of new vehicle models to market – three new SUV/Crossover vehicles by 2023! The Neil Huffman Mazda team is thrilled with these new releases and the range of all-new options available to our customers. By 2023, Mazda will unveil the CX-90 Crossover vehicle. This three-row model will be available in a turbocharged, six-cylinder version, as well as a plug-in hybrid model.

What is the difference between a crossover vehicle (Crossover Utility Vehicle or CUV) and an SUV? The primary distinction is that crossovers have unibody construction and tend toward better fuel efficiency when compared to SUVs. Perfect option in these times of high gas prices!

Already revealed is the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Crossover vehicle – a two-row, mid-size model. Also expected in 2023 is the CX-70, a two-row model available in six-cylinder and plug-in hybrid models.

Though the 2023 Mazda CX-90 has yet to be officially revealed, all information we have points to a well-appointed vehicle that is sure to be the perfect vehicle for busy families.

So, if you’re someone who loves luxurious touches combined with the practicality and function of a Crossover or SUV, the 2023 Mazda CX-90 is for you!

Difference Between CUVs and SUVs

What makes a crossover a crossover, and a SUV a SUV, is a difference in the base frame, or chassis, of the vehicles.

A CUV’s chassis is modeled after a passenger car, while an SUV’s is modeled after a truck, so the former tends to be lighter and less tow-focused than the latter.

Neil Huffman Mazda is excited to offer the CX-90 and all of Mazda’s upcoming crossover vehicles once they become available for purchase. We eagerly await a release date from Mazda USA for all upcoming models. In the meantime, let’s dive into more detail around the Mazda CX-90!

The Mazda CX-90 Three-Row Crossover Model

The 2023 Mazda CX-90 is expected to replace the Mazda CX-9. The buyer may choose between a turbocharged inline-six cylinder engine or a plug-in hybrid engine.

Drivers interested in the plug-in hybrid version, which offers a larger battery than other hybrids. You’ll be thrilled to learn that the CX-90 PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) is estimated to deliver approximately two-to-three hours of electric-only drive time per charge. As this is a hybrid and not fully electric vehicle (EV), the CX-90 PHEV does require gasoline for operation – but you’ll save big money with less trips to the pump!

Powertrain Options For The 2023 MAZDA CX-90

The Mazda CX-90 is expected to be available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD) options – so whether you have an outdoor lifestyle, live in snowy areas, or simply need an easy drive for trips around the city – there is a CX-90 model for everyone.

Interior and Exterior Of The 2023 MAZDA CX-90

The interior’s three rows is a big draw for those looking for the seating possibilities of an SUV with better gas mileage. The CX-90 also promises a high-quality infotainment system and comfortable seating. The crossover’s exterior is sleek and less bulky, which makes for a more stylish exterior, which is a hallmark of crossover vehicles (when compared to traditional SUVs).

Keep your eye open for the 2023 MAZDA CX-90!

Though Mazda USA has not publicized a release date for the CX-90 Crossover, we expect it will be brought to market and available for purchase by the end of 2022. Stay on the lookout and check back here so you can make plans for a test drive!

2023 MAZDA CX-50

A Step Forward

Those of you who have been keeping up with the automobile manufacturing industry  already understand why Mazda’s latest all-terrain SUV is one of the more important  releases in the past decade or so.

The 2023 MAZDA CX-50 is the first vehicle Mazda has manufactured in the United States  within the past decade. Assembled in Huntsville, Alabama, the luxury SUV is made possible  by a partnership between Mazda and Toyota. Each of the automotive manufacturers will be  using the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville, and the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 is  just one such example of this unique manufacturing partnership.

An All-Terrain Vehicle for City-Dwellers and Nature Lovers Alike

Though there is certainly a resemblance in name, the MAZDA CX-50 is quite different from  the MAZDA CX-5. The MAZDA CX-50 is perfectly designed for the avid outdoors  enthusiast! This all-terrain SUV is perfect for a weekend getaway in nature – whether it’s a  hiking trip, camping getaway, or kayaking adventure. Ready to go off-road? You can take  the 2023 MAZDA CX-50 just about anywhere!

An Exterior Built for Every Environment

Mazda emphasizes the ruggedness and adaptability of their new vehicle through its exterior  design. For one, it comes with a roof rail that you can use for transporting bulky gear like  tents, kayaks, and other nature-trip necessities.

For loading more outdoor equipment, you can pull down the trunk’s lift gate and store that  equipment in the roomy cargo floor. You can think twice about lugging a storage vehicle  behind you for your next trip.

The MAZDA CX-50’s tough body cladding also can withstand the rigors of demanding  weather conditions – whether it’s a fun nature trip or a Sunday drive in the city. The addition  of an all-wheel drive system also makes the MAZDA CX-50 a top choice for those with an  adventurous spirit.

A Safe, Comfortable, and High-Tech Interior

Though the MAZDA CX-50 is specially tailored for outdoors enthusiasts, you won’t need to  sacrifice all the technology you love. This is a high-tech ride!

Drivers have two choices of what’s under the hood in the new MAZDA CX-50. Choose from  a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four or a 2.5-liter turbo-four engine. Each option boasts a  six-speed automatic transmission. And if you’re a fan of electric vehicles, Mazda is planning  an electric alternative to this SUV, which is sure to please your inner environmentalist.

Drivers will enjoy an unparalleled off-road and sports driving experience with the new  Mazda intelligent Drive Select, known as Mi-Drive. This feature supports a wealth of drive  modes, including one for towing if you select the MAZDA CX-50 Turbo model.

The vehicle’s cabin design is influenced by the rugged yet comfortable features of outdoor  equipment, including features like a firm but supportive grip and interior wear-resistant  fabric. The roof line is low and the vehicle’s stance is wide, ideal for expeditions where  space and comfort is most important.

Whether you like to go hiking every weekend, take a yearly trip to an amazing location, or  simply want a spacious and sporty SUV for everyday excursions and commuting, then the  2023 MAZDA CX-50 is the perfect choice for you!

The dedicated service team at Neil Huffman Mazda wants to remind you of the importance of taking steps to winterize your vehicle before we experience the harshest conditions of the season.

While the official start of winter may not happen until December 21, it’s already starting to feel like it here in Louisville, Kentucky! As we head into the start of the holiday season, many of us are anticipating and planning for celebrations and seasonal activities. It’s also important to make plans to prepare your car for the harsh realities of winter temperatures and precipitation.

The dedicated service team at Neil Huffman Mazda wants to remind you of the importance of taking steps to winterize your vehicle before we experience the harshest conditions of the season. Because here in the Louisville area, you never know when that will happen!

The sooner the better!

First things first – take a look at your calendar right away and call Neil Huffman Mazda in Louisville at 502-410-0710. Or, you may reach our service department online. This can be a busy time of year for automotive service departments, and you’ll want to reserve a spot to winterize your Mazda ASAP. Winter’s coming fast – and now’s the time to make sure your vehicle is reliable, road-ready, and prepared to endure the elements of winter. You’ll want to get ahead of it before temperatures remain low for several months at a time.

Check your tires

While snow tires aren’t typically a common choice of motorists in this region, you do need to pay extra attention to the condition of your tires in winter. When cold weather does settle in, tires with some age and significant wear may be more brittle and therefore less responsive to snowy or slick road conditions. Any beginning of dry rot, cracking, or low tread should be addressed immediately. Good tire condition is a vital part of road safety along with protecting yourself, your passengers, and other motorists.

Test your battery

If your car battery is coming up on about three years old, it may be time for a new one in advance of the season’s coldest temperatures. That’s because cold temperatures place a heavier demand on automotive batteries, which means more power is required of them to start when weather is frigid. So if you notice your Volkswagen has been hesitating to start in milder temperatures, you’ll definitely want to bring in your vehicle to have a battery load test completed. It is also important to check all connections and for any possible corrosion. Neil Huffman Mazda’s service department can take care of this, along with a host of other pre-winter vehicle checks.

Fresh motor oil

While regular oil changes are important any time of the year, this is especially critical during cold winter months. Motor oil can become especially thick and “sludgy” in cold temperatures, making it difficult to lubricate your Mazda’s engine components properly. This could mean your engine won’t operate smoothly, or worse, costly damage could occur. Beyond keeping up with oil changes, you might also consider asking for a motor oil weight designed for colder temperatures. If it’s been longer than the recommended 3,000-to-5,000 mile oil change interval, and cold weather is creeping in, it’s time to call the Neil Huffman Mazda service department for an appointment!

Check windshield wipers

You do not want to get caught with brittle, torn windshield wiper blades when the first snowfall (or ice!) hits. We’ve all been there, and it’s not fun – or safe. Fresh wipers mean you won’t struggle unexpectedly when snow, ice, and salt coat your windshield. Equally important, be sure to check your windshield wiper reservoir regularly during winter to be sure it has enough fluid.

Antifreeze and other critical fluids

A very important part of winterizing your Mazda is checking antifreeze and other fluid levels. Antifreeze helps ensure the fluids designed to cool your engine do not freeze. Neil Huffman Mazda service technicians will check all fluid levels to be sure they’re fresh, or topped-off. You generally want to replace antifreeze every two years.

Neil Huffman Mazda in Louisville has you covered!

Don’t take chances this winter – have your vehicle serviced soon and take care of any important repairs and maintenance needs before harsh temperatures settle-in. When your vehicle is in good shape and you feel safe on the road, you can face winter roads with confidence and enjoy the ride! The Neil Huffman Mazda service department is standing by, ready to help.

Mazda began in 1920 as the Toyo Cork Kogyo Co. Ltd., founded by Jujiro Matsuda in Hiroshima, Japan. The company initially began by manufacturing artificial cork due to a shortage and high demand of natural cork. Within a few years, the production of natural cork returned to levels that closer met demand, and the company began manufacturing machine tools. In 1930 it then developed an affordable three-wheeled rickshaw truck.
